Igbobi College, Yaba marked its 85th Founders’ Day anniversary with the usual style and aplomb. The two-day activity started on Thursday February 2nd 2017 with a Communion Service at the Rev Canon Parker Chapel and ended with the prestigious 2017 ICOBA Merit Awards and Luncheon on Sunday February 5th 2017 at the Rev Angus Memorial hall.

The annual Thanksgiving service of the old boys preceded the Merit Award ceremony on Sunday in the newly refurbished chapel. Packed to the brim with ICOBA family and friends, the new look chapel, renovated by ICOBANA and ICOBA 7173 Set was also re-dedicated that same day after the two-hour long service by the ICOBA President, Mr Foluso Phillips.

The main event of the day was the award of Merit to 14 distinguished old boys who had excelled in various categories through service and honour to their Alma Mata, their profession and the nation, Nigeria. The awardees were:

Responding on behalf of the awardees, the most senior recipient, Chief Chris Okunowo thanked the association for the recognition given to their years of service and dedication to the causes and promised to even strive harder for better things. The ICOBA President, Mr Foluso Phillips challenged the awardees to sponsor a project collectively.

The anniversary cake was cut by all the awardees alongside the ICOBA President who incidentally marked his own birthday that same day and had a beautiful surprise cake presented in his honour to commemorate the celebration.

The after-party followed immediately after the awards ceremony with light music from the past from the DJ. Saxophonist Temitope Adesanwo of Thorpeedoh Band thrilled the guests to a medley of inspirational instrumental songs that had men and women dancing all through while the party lasted.
