SUBJECT: 2025 ICOBA MERIT AWARDS – CALL FOR NOMINATIONS

In accordance with the provisions of Article 17 of the ICOBA Constitution 2020, this is a formal announcement of Call for Nominations for the ICOBA MERIT AWARDS at the 93rd Founders’ Day Anniversary Celebrations coming up in February 2025.

The requirements are as listed below:

TERMS:

1. The Categories are:

• Service to Igbobi College

• Service to the ICOBA

• Service to the Nation

• Professional Excellence

• Academic Achievement

2. The Nomination Package MUST contain:

a. Letter of nomination by Branch or Set

b. Detailed resume and profile of the nominee and other support documents that

best support his nomination.

c. 2No 5×7 Digital Portrait photographs.

d. A letter from the nominee stating that should he be deemed fit to receive the award by the Executive Council he SHALL be present at the ceremony to receive the award in person as such conferment is NEVER done in absentia or by proxy

e. Proof of payment of current year’s (2024-2025) Annual Dues by the nominating Branch or Set.

f. Nominees MUST be financial members for at least three (3) consecutive

years (i.e. 2022-2023, 2023-2024 and 2024-2025)

3. All recommendations must come through branches and sets except in cases where the nominee’s set does not meet formally.

In such a case, at least three (3) members of his set must sign the nomination.

4. The awards are to be strongly weighted towards service to ICOBA and Igbobi College.

5. There is no limit to the number of nominees that may be presented to the

committee.

6. Hard copies of nominations should be sent directly to the Secretary General, Igbobi College

Old Boys’ Association, ICOBA House, Igbobi College Yaba, Lagos, while soft copies should be forwarded to secgen@icobainternational.org, gbengaolatuk@gmail.com and aristerent@gmail.com

NB: It is the responsibility of every nominee and his proposers to submit all relevant documents, which may best support his nomination and, the Committee SHALL

solicit more supporting documents where required.

Nominees should ensure that all relevant documents are enclosed in one (1)

envelope and addressed as ‘Nomination Package’.

Nomination packages received ‘piece-meal’ or after *23:59 Hours on Thursday, October 31, 2024 WILL NOT receive attention, please.

Elections Result for ICOBA 2023/2025 National Executive Council

Re: Update on/Status of the September 16 2023 Elections.

Dear Old Igbobian,

We are happy to report that at the close of the Screening and Objections period, 15 of the available 17 positions have been filled unopposed, nobody vied for the position of 1970s Representative whilst two members shall be contesting for the position of Secretary on the Election Day.

Please find attached a Table of the current status of the Elections for your perusal and records.

Update on the September 16th, 2023 Elections

Dear Igbobian,

Seventeen (17) Members submitted Nomination Forms for 16 NEC Positions. They were all screened and found eligible to contest. The result of the Screening has been posted on the ICOBA House Notice Board as well as forwarded herewith.

Members now have 48 hours to raise whatever objections they have to the scoring or screening results of any of the Candidates after which the Objection Period shall close and Candidates who are running unopposed shall be declared duly elected.

Lastly, in accordance with the Constitution and the Rules and Regulations guiding this Elections, Campaigning starts today the 1st of September 2023 and closes 24 hours to the Elections.

Very Important Notice Concerning the September 16th 2023 Elections

Dear Igbobians,

This is to remind all members, Sets, Branches and Chapters that Nominations for all NEC Positions close on the 30th of August 2023. The ICOBA INTERNATIONAL Constitution provides that Nominations shall close 17 days to the Elections. This being a Constitutional Provision the Electoral Committee has no powers to waive, ignore or extend the closing date. Intending Contestants are thus advised to do the needful within the short time left.

We have also noticed that some Contestants have simply filled and submitted Nomination Forms without accompanying them with their CVs in contravention of the Guidelines (Article 9). The ICOBA Constitution demands that the CVs of Candidates and their Nomination Forms be displayed on the ICOBA INTERNATIONAL Website as well as on the ICOBA House Notice Board. This requirement too being a mandatory provision, it cannot be waived or ignored by us. All Contestants yet to forward their CVs are thus enjoined to do so as soon as possible and before the 30th of August 2023.

Notice of Amendment to the Election Guidelines.

Dear sirs,

This is to inform all members that there has been a slight amendment to Clause 17 of the Election Guidelines as follows:

“Clause 17. All Candidate’s Nomination Forms must be endorsed by the Chairman of his Class Set, Branch or Chapter for it to be valid, PROVIDED THAT where the Chairman is a Candidate the Nomination Forms shall be signed by the Vice Chairman of the Set, Branch or Chapter. The endorsement shall certify that the contestant is in good financial standing and that the majority of the Branch or Class Set or Chapter have endorsed his candidacy to such a position in the National Executive Council.”

This is to take care of Set, Branch or Chapter Chairmen’s endorsement of Candidates Nomination Forms where Set, Branch or Chapter Chairmen are contesting for NEC positions.

ICOBA BRANCHES, SETS AND INDIVIDUAL DUES 2022.

Dear Chairmen/Secretaries,

On behalf of the National Executive Council of ICOBA, may I inform all that the 2022 Annual Dues for Sets Branches and Individuals Members of the Association has been due since April 1, 2022.

In accordance to the Constitution, the ICOBA Sets Dues amounts to N25,000, the Branches Dues amounts to N100,000 and the Individual Dues amounts to N5,000 for each member.

This being a special year that we are celebrating the 90th Anniversary of our Alma Mater, it is important you forward all your dues as soon as possible in order to participate in all the approved activities for the Anniversary, 2020 Christmas Dinner etc). Also the payments will allow you to participate in the Annual General Meeting and the Chairmen & Secretaries meetings for 2022 and ICOBA Elections.
